Hill’s® Science Diet® Adult Sensitive Stomach & Skin

Old Grandpa Junior is 14 years old. But that does not really stop him from acting like a kitten, especially when it comes to chasing a feather on the string, chewing the head off the new toy, and so on. Thankfully, his battle with the weight did not take the cat out of him. Junior was 34 pounds the day I saved him.

2 days after I got him. He was not able to get onto the couch, I had to carry him around like a baby.

If you saw some of our videos or read some posts. you know by now that Junior is obese. If you haven’t had a chance to read his rescue story, I would just give you the quick scoop here: Junior spent 10 months locked in the garage with bags of food and water coming from the drain. Without exercise, with the abundance of food he “ballooned” to the whopping 34 pounds. Due to the lack of proper hydration, his skin became very flaky, irritated and his short fur was all mutted.

Since he did not have a constant clean water supply, his stomach had to compensate for the lack of moisture when processing dry food. This led to some very serious complications. When I was able to get this guy under my care at his sweet age of 12, I did not know that yet. I only knew that I had to be very persistent in helping this handsome man to battle all that excess weight.

I consluted with the vet and was OK’d to give the boy regular store food, but under very strict supervision. The negative side of the new lifestyle was very quickly discovered. Now that he had abundance of fresh clean water from the kitty fountain, he began to go to the bathroom more frequently. And since his stomach was damaged, it was not really processing food as fast as it should. His fur and skin improved, but his weight climbed again. Water weight put him over 35 pounds.

I loved this guy so much from the very first day I held him in my arms (almost dropped him, – he was that heavy)! He has the most beautiful, very soulful eyes! I was determined to make him healthy and we went back to the vet.

We had blood work done, as at that point I was really concerned that Junior could have had diabetes, liver or kidney problems, etc. Amazingly, he got a clean bill of health! So, together with the vet we diminished the problem to choosing the right food. First we tried weight control, but it really did not work at that stage. Junior kept throwing up, and scaring me more and more. After 2 weeks, the vet suggested the “Hill’s Science Diet” Adult Cat Sensitive Stomach & Skin.

I was kind of worried of giving it to Junior, as the kibblets appeared to be quite large. Honestly? It was the first cat food ever that I wanted to try myself after I opened it. It smelled good! (If you are curious, I never did try it).

Our vet got yet one more annoying phone call from me after Junior threw up again on his first feeding. I was calmly reassured that trying for a couple more days will not do any harm, but might get better results. So, I gave Junior this food the following morning, and, as usual, being late for work I was following him around with the paper towel. The towel stayed dry that day!And the day after!

Naturally, we committed to buying that food for the boy. It was a bit more expensive than the shelf food at Safeway… So, I had to become creative and find the best deals on it. Sharing this with you now.

I buy 2 bags at a time on Amazon to get free shipping. I went to a local pet store and found the same bag on “sale” for $ 39.99… So you do your math to see that what I am sharing is totally worth your time reading this far!
It has been over a year now and our beautiful Junie Boy is down to 22 pounds, with the silkiest fur ever! He now runs and even attempted to climb the cat tree! (I only helped a little!)
